MAP Engages Port Loko District Council: Strengthening Ties for Community Growth

On November 6, 2024, Mobilize Against Poverty (MAP) team, led by the passionate Kadiatu Mangai, paid a meaningful visit to the Port Loko District Council (PLDC) for a familiarization meeting. This visit marked another milestone in MAP’s commitment to empowering underserved communities through collaboration with local authorities.

Kadiatu Mangai set the tone for the meeting, warmly introducing MAP’s vision and objectives. She emphasized the organization’s dedication to uplifting communities through sustainable development and highlighted MAP’s readiness to collaborate with the council and local leaders to drive real, lasting change.

Mrs. Mansaray, another vibrant voice of the MAP team, elaborated on the areas MAP aims to target, including Tainkatopa, Makama, Bakeloko, Maforki, and Marampa. Her presentation underscored MAP’s focus on reaching communities most in need.

The Council Administrator (CA) of Port Loko District Council expressed heartfelt gratitude for the visit and praised MAP for taking the initiative to engage with the council. Recognizing the importance of collaboration, the District Council Chairman, Mr. Saccoh, conveyed his full support and appreciation for MAP’s efforts.

However, Mr. Saccoh offered a heartfelt suggestion: he urged MAP to consider Kasseh as a target area instead of Marampa, highlighting Kasseh as a community in dire need of development. His passion for helping underserved areas was evident as he recommended that MAP formalize the partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). This step, he explained, would pave the way for future endorsements and support from the council.

The Chairman’s wisdom didn’t stop there. He encouraged MAP to take a community-first approach by conducting a needs assessment. He suggested using questionnaires to gather insights directly from the people, ensuring MAP’s projects align with the communities’ real needs. He further advised MAP to develop a five-year strategic plan that outlines the organization’s goals, expected outcomes, and the transformative impact of its work.

As the meeting concluded, Mr. Kamara, representing MAP, expressed profound gratitude for the council’s warm reception and valuable guidance. The visit ended on a hopeful note, with a shared vision of collaboration to bring meaningful change to Port Loko’s communities.

This visit exemplifies MAP’s unwavering dedication to building bridges and empowering communities, one step at a time. Together, we can create a brighter future for all.
