About us

MAP Office

Our Story:

Mobilize Against Poverty (MAP) was founded in 2020 from our collective desire to address the persistent challenges faced by the impoverished communities of Portloko District. We saw the struggles of everyday life—families battling poverty, children unable to access education, and communities facing the devastating impacts of climate change and limited healthcare. Inspired by the resilience and potential of the people, we came together to make a lasting difference.

Our journey began with small but impactful livelihood support initiatives. Over time, we expanded our reach and programs to address agriculture, education, women’s empowerment, climate change, and healthcare. These programs have not only provided immediate relief but have also paved the way for long-term sustainable development.

With every milestone, we witnessed transformations such as farmers doubling their harvests, children stepping into classrooms, women launching small businesses, and communities uniting to protect their environment. These successes have reinforced our belief in the power of community-driven development.

Today, we have formed partnerships with numerous local community-based organizations (CBOs) and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to broaden our reach and deepen our impact. Additionally, we have signed several Memorandum of Understanding (MOUs) with various government institutions, such as the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (MoAFS), the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MoECC), the Ministry of Gender and Childrens Affairs (MoGCA), the Ministry of Health and Sanitation (MOHS), PortLoko District Council (PLDC), etc., aligning our initiatives with the governments development priorities. These collaborations ensure that our efforts are well coordinated and maximize the positive impact on the communities we serve.

Our story is one of hope, collaboration, and transformation. Together, we continue to empower marginalized communities, working toward a future where every individual thrives in dignity and self-reliance.

How we operate

We manage and operate our projects by forming local steering committees within project areas. Portloko district has thirteen chiefdoms. Each chiefdom has its own sections and villages. By carefully forming and empowering local steering committees within the sections, MAP can create a strong foundation for project implementation, ensuring that interventions are driven by community input and sustained through local leadership.

We do not impose solutions on communities. We listen, learn, and work together to find solutions that are driven by the people themselves. Our focus is on community-led development, where every chiefdom and village take an active role in shaping its future.

Our Mission:

To empower impoverished rural communities in Port Loko District through agriculture, education, women’s empowerment, and climate change initiatives, fostering self-reliance and sustainable development.

Our Vision:

At MAP, we envision a future where poverty is eradicated, and individuals and communities have the opportunity to thrive and achieve their full potential. We aspire to create an inclusive society that provides equal opportunities, promotes gender equality, and fosters resilience in the face of climate change.

Our Core Values:

  1. Inclusivity: We believe in empowering all individuals, regardless of gender, age, or background.
  2. Sustainability: Our programs prioritize long-term impact and environmental responsibility.
  3. Integrity: Transparency and accountability guide every aspect of our work.
  4. Collaboration: We partner with communities, line ministries, and other organizations to amplify our impact.
